Job Summary

Work in the Academic Advising office as the initial contact for all guests to Advising.
Perform receptionist duties in a positive, cheerful, professional, and enthusiastic manner.
Assist with crowd management during the months with the highest intake of students.

Normal shift is mornings from 8:00AM – 1:30PM Monday through Thursday and 8:00AM – 12:30PM on Fridays, however, work location and hours may vary depending on the needs of the department.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Provide a warm and welcoming environment to all incoming students and guests of the Academic Advising office.
Assist students, both in person and over the phone, in scheduling appointments and logging in to see their advisors.
Effectively manage and triage students and redirect them to other services as needed.
Proactively notify advisors of demand of services.
Refer students to campus resources.
Access the A-Z index on the college website, as well as, the Advising website for information to provide students with quick answers to frequently asked questions.
Flexibility with work hours during RUSH and for sick, vacation, or other coverage.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School graduate or GED and one year of work experience in an office setting.

Experience with higher education

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Flexible, dependable and reliable.
Excellent interpersonal skills (i.e.: listening skills, collaboration, negotiation).
Have a cheerful disposition and enjoy working with a diverse staff and student body, both over the phone and in-person.
Understand the functions of the Student Affairs offices.
Have a demonstrated ability finding information on the SLCC website.
Organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Assist other support staff with special projects, calling campaigns, flyer creation and/or event planning/decorating as needed. Other duties as assigned.
