General Notes

The Institute for Fusion Studies invites applications for a postdoctoral position in theoretical and computational plasma physics. The Institute for Fusion Studies is a national center for research in the physics of plasmas and fusion energy. The successful candidate will have experience with plasma physics and fusion research, high performance scientific computing, and aptitude to collaborate effectively. The position will involve the conducting research applying basic theory and gyrokinetic simulations to understanding, predicting, and interpreting pedestal transport on the DIII-D tokamak.

Purpose

This position is for a postdoc to investigate turbulent transport in the tokamak pedestal using gyrokinetic simulations.


Responsibilities

  • Carry out analysis of DIII-D pedestal data and corresponding gyrokinetic simulations.

  • Support and collaborate with students and other group members working in related areas.

  • Write papers and prepare presentations to communicate results.


Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Plasma Physics or related field, earned less than three years ago. Experience in computational research. Excellent written and oral communication skills and a strong command of the English language.


Preferred Qualifications

Three or more years in computational plasma research. Experience in presenting research at scientific workshops and conferences


Salary

$63,000 + depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
