Statement of the Job:

The University of Maine Pathogenic Microbiology Lab is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to assist with research activities, manuscript and grant preparation, laboratory management, fieldwork, and graduate and undergraduate student mentorship. This is a one-year, grant funded position. Extension of the position is possible, contingent on funding and performance. Typical hiring range for this soft-money funded, fixed-length position is $46,000 - $48,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., food science, food microbiology, or other related discipline) by the start date of the appointment.
  • Prior coursework in plant pathology, plant physiology and mycology.
  • 1-3 years of experience in laboratory, fieldwork, and social science research.
  • Experience working collaboratively and independently.
  • Expert-level command of word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to learn new lab and field techniques quickly, both with guidance and in a self-taught capacity.
  • Manuscript writing experience.
  • Experience with produce safety in Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA).
  • Experience with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule (PSR).

Preferred:

  • Experience with scientific data management.
  • Experience with scientific computing using R and/or Python.
  • Experience with qualitative data analysis using NVivo or similar software.
  • Grant writing experience.
  • Science communication experience, including outreach to non-scientific audiences.
  • Completed the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule (PSR) train-the-trainer or grower training.
