Job Description


The Department of Pathology at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Associate in the Research Laboratory of Dr. Jianguo Tao, MD, PhD. We are looking for talented, responsible and self-motivated individuals who are interested in joining a growing team focused on understanding the genetic and epigenetic mechanism of tumor microenvironment (TME)-induced survival and therapy (targeted and immunotherapy) resistance in malignant lymphomas.

Qualified applicants must have Ph.D degree in Biology, Biochemistry or Molecular biology and at least 3 years of experience working in a research environment or Ph.D. degree in Cancer Biology with at least 3 years of experience working in a research environment. 

Postdoctoral employment is temporary and is normally limited to an individual who has been awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate within the previous five years1 and who will be involved in full-time research or scholarship at the University. Employment as a Postdoctoral Research Associate is viewed as training and is preparatory for a full-time academic or research career, is supervised by a senior scholar, and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship during the training period.

All candidates should have training and experience performing research at Biosafety Level 2 with pathogens and/or human cell culture and must have at least one accepted first-author peer-reviewed publication prior to the start date of the appointment.

Job Description:

  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams at the interface of cancer biology, immunology and computer science.

  • Expertise with cutting edge molecular biology and/or biochemistry methods ex vivo and in vivo and concepts.

  • Familiarity with data analysis tools and methodologies that are commonly used in modern laboratory data analysis.

  • Work with a team of researchers to extend and interpret advanced analytical methodologies such as R Programming is a plus.

  • Candidates should be capable of designing and carrying out high level, complex research experiments while functioning independently under the general direction of the principal investigator.

  • Candidates should also be comfortable being responsible for oversight of the lab.  Strong writing and communication skills; and a willingness to collaborate and oversee graduate and undergraduate students are preferred.
