Postdoctoral Fellow

Job Description

Position Description:

We’re looking for those individuals—the creative thinkers and innovation seekers—who are content with nothing short of changing the world. Discover the endless opportunities within the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and be inspired by the work we can do together to improve health, and make a positive, daily impact in our communities.

The Marassi laboratory, in the Department of Biophysics at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), is seeking candidates for a Postdoctoral position in the area of structural biology based primarily on biomolecular nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Research projects focus on protein-protein, protein-lipid, and protein-biomineral interactions in the context of diseases of aging (macular degeneration and Alzheimer's disease) and host-pathogen encounters, with a strong focus on cellular and near-native samples.

The successful candidate will be trained in experimental techniques (including recombinant protein production, purification, protein biophysical and biochemical characterization, and functional assays), independently perform experiments, analyze data, and compile results to advance research goals. A successful individual will join an interdisciplinary team and mentor graduate students in research projects. Strong collaborative skills are required.

The successful candidate will gain access to state-of-the-art research resources available for NMR in solution and the solid-state, EPR, MRI, X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, biomolecular analysis, and high-performance computing. For more information, see MCW Biophysics .

  • Independently design and perform lab procedures and experiments.
  • Record and compile accurate records and communicate summaries of experimental results.
  • Analyze data using statistical methodologies; create graphic results for presentations and publications.
  • Participate in meetings with the principal investigator and staff to evaluate and interpret the validity of data, determine methodologies, and evaluate lab procedures impacting the quality and timeliness of research.
  • Disseminate results through presentations at conferences and writing manuscripts.
  • Keep abreast of research techniques and methodologies that might facilitate designated research projects.
  • Communicate with researchers in other laboratories; share ideas and research methodologies to improve the effectiveness of the research.
