Job Description

Jefferson Community College, Watertown, New York, a member of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, is conducting a search for a full-time, tenure-track Chemistry Instructor to begin August, 2023. This is a full-time teaching position with no research expectations. Responsibilities include teaching lecture and laboratory sections, which may include evening, hybrid, and on-line formats. Committee work and advising are required. Faculty are expected to advance the College’s focus on student success and completion and will work closely with the College's leadership to advance the mission of the Strategic Plan 2020-2025.

Required: Minimum of a Master’s degree in chemistry or a related field with at least 18 hours of graduate credits in chemistry coursework; the ability to teach general chemistry coursework for majors and non-majors as well as organic chemistry. Preference will be given to candidates with a graduate degree in chemistry.

Applicants must interact and communicate effectively with diverse populations, foster inclusion, and promote equal access and treatment for groups traditionally under-represented in higher education.

Preferred: Ph.D. in chemistry; college-level teaching; collaborative curriculum development experience; the ability to apply a variety of teaching methods in both lecture and laboratory; a demonstrated depth of knowledge or experience in a relevant specialization; familiarity with instructional technology; strong written and oral communication skills; experience working with students of diverse age, knowledge and skill; experience teaching in an on-line and/or hybrid format; an understanding of community college philosophy.
