Position Summary

The Central Wyoming College Foundation Director of Development - Jackson will build and enhance relationships with all constituents to increase financial and other support for Central Wyoming College. This position is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gifts throughout the greater Teton County area. This position works collaboratively with College leadership, key faculty and staff, and volunteers; develops compelling communication pieces and proposals, creates and staffs events, and engages with the communities where prospective donors reside.


 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Stays knowledgeable on all aspects of Central Wyoming College including its vision, mission, history, structure, policies, financial status, etc.
  • Works closely with the Executive Director of the CWC Foundation to plan and implement fundraising strategies in a moves management system that will evaluate various gift opportunities and giving vehicles that are the most suitable for a particular donor.
  • Makes assessment calls, cultivates, solicits, provides recognition, and appropriately stewards leadership and major gifts, with an emphasis on gifts of $25,000 and and greater.
  • Engages in field research, donor evaluation and and validation.
  • Manages a personal portfolio of major gift prospects and donors and average at least 15 visits per month.
  • Staffs the President and other key College leaders, faculty, and volunteers in their fundraising efforts.
  • Assumes a lead role in particular projects and responsibility for their successful completion. Assists with presentations on activities to the board, campus senior leadership, donors, and other partners. Participates as a key leader on all internal fundraising planning efforts, including, but not limited to, strategic plan development, campaign planning, and special projects development.
  • Recruits volunteers and volunteer leaders. Assesses need for volunteers and volunteer leaders to assist with cultivation and solicitation activities.
  • Represents Central Wyoming College and the CWC Foundation to internal and external constituencies; serve on committees and attend events as needed. Participates in community, civic and other activities to foster support for and involvement with Central Wyoming College.
  • Documents all constituent activity in Raiser’s Edge database, as well as informing college faculty and staff of actions as needed.
  • On a monthly basis, files at least 20 contact reports and on an annual basis, writes 35 gift proposals and closes at least 10 major gifts.
  • Stays current on fundraising techniques and trends.
  • Operate within the framework established by CWC’s policies, procedures, and and practices.
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as directed or assigned.

 

Position Specifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/work experience.
  • Five or more years of professional experience in development, or other intensive relationship-building/portfolio management profession such as sales, banking or trust department, insurance, etc.
  • Requires optimism, creativity, curiosity, diligence, a commitment to collaboration, and enthusiasm for the mission of Central Wyoming College.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends as necessary to accommodate the schedules of donors, volunteers, and events.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with The Raiser Edge or other relationship management software.
  • Experience in project planning and management.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to relate to volunteers, colleagues and high-level college administrators with a high degree of personal integrity, tact, sensitivity and mature judgment.
  • Ability to work with considerable independence within the context of a team environment and a network of relationships.
  • Outstanding relationship-building and communication skills, especially intensive listening.
  • Strong organizational and project-planning abilities with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of colleagues on campus and prospects off-campus.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information regarding donors and and prospects.
  • Computer literacy, able to use word processing and spreadsheet programs effectively.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly and work evenings and weekends as necessary to accommodate the schedules of donors and volunteers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to persuasively articulate the vision, mission, values and goals of the institution.
  • Strong organizational abilities with the ability to manage both people and processes, must be able to work successfully both individually and as part of a team.
  • Ability to analyze and apply data to effectively manage a portfolio
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission and goals of a comprehensive community college system and a willingness to play an active role in the life of the college and the community.
  • A sense of humor.
  • Preferred: Demonstrated knowledge of Wind River Indian Reservation culture and peoples, a significant part of CWC's service area.

Level of Supervision

This position operates under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of the CWC Foundation.

  • Equipment Used
    • Work is performed using standard office equipment and requires the use of an automobile.
  • Physical Requirements
    • Tasks require variety of physical activities, which do not generally involve muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching and light lifting. Regular talking, hearing and seeing required to perform essential functions of the job. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required to perform some essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Environmental Conditions
    • Work is performed in a home office with substantial work outside of the office at such places as donor’s homes, places of business, restaurants, and other public meeting spaces as well as the CWC-Jackson campus. Travel, weekend and evening work will be required.
