Job Description

Employees starting at the entry step of this range receive salary step advancement after six months and every 12 months thereafter. If an employee starting at anything higher than the entry step of the range, will have salary step advancement after 12 months and salary step advancement every 12 months thereafter until they reach the top of the salary range. Each salary step advancement will be approximately a 5% increase in salary.

The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of ABE Instructional Tech. in the SCC Adult Education/GED Department.

GENERAL DEFINITION

Positions work under general supervision of the English as a Second Language (ESL) supervisor. Positions assist the supervisor by performing routine paperwork or instructional support services for the ABE Department. Duties include activities such as assisting in preparing materials and equipment for use in a shop, classroom or laboratory; setting up, maintaining, and operating equipment in accordance with standardized procedures or instructions received from academic or supervisory personnel; assisting students in course work assignments; working with students as assigned; assisting instructors in presenting course material; and administering and scoring tests.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists supervisor/instructor in classroom work, field trips, and lecture periods; assists in the classroom.
  • Support students enrolled in person and online courses with technology and class materials.
  • Helps with classroom or computer lab activities and maintains discipline as needed.
  • Assists with preparation of instructional materials as directed.
  • Catalogs equipment and supplies for easy acquisitions and orders supplies.
  • Administers standardized tests to students; scores tests and records results for analysis.
  • Maintains files on individual student’s progress; reviews daily work of students; conducts individual student conferences as necessary.
  • Maintains records of work activities and prepares reports, including student files and related student files and related documents. Meets with Students as directed by instructor.
  • Attends and participates in periodic in-service training programs.
  • Provide support to ABE programs as needed.
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions.
  • Complies with district policy, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statute and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform related duties as required.
  • Indicates this is an essential duty.

This position is designated a bargaining unit position.

PREFERRED COMPETENCIES (DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Six months to two years of full-time experience/training in the appropriate discipline.

CONDITIONS/TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS -

Determined from the Working Conditions Analysis form (on file)Work is performed in a normal, temperature-controlled office environment. Work maybe sedentary in nature. Frequent use of computer and exposure to terminal screens. Visual focus and strain. Work directly with students/clients. Frequent oral and auditory communication with others.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Position is eligible for overtime. Requires criminal background check. Position is covered under collective bargaining agreement. On-permanent hourly.
