Neurotrauma Postdoctoral Fellow

Job Description

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Drs. Alan Faden/Bogdan Stoica, Department of Anesthesiology & the STAR Organized Research Center. Our research focuses on the pathobiological mechanisms and treatment of experimental traumatic brain injury (TBI). Projects include:

  • Elucidating molecular mechanisms responsible for TBI-induced neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration.
  • Examining the role and mechanisms of epigenetic regulation of neuroinflammation after TBI, as well as effects of interventions targeting epigenetic processes on chronic neurodegeneration and neurological dysfunction.
  • Investigating the role of central and systemic extracellular vesicles (EVs) in secondary injury after TBI.
  • Characterizing the role of bidirectional brain-system interactions in the pathobiology of chronic neurodegeneration after brain injury.

Multidisciplinary approaches include molecular and cellular biology, diverse behavioral evaluation, and quantitative histology. In addition, there is increasing utilization of single-cell transcriptomics and epigenetics, as well as advanced machine learning applications.

Qualifications:

PhD or MD with 2-4 years of training in Neuroscience, Molecular/Cell Biology, Pharmacology, and/or a related field. Extensive experience in experimental (mouse/rat) models of traumatic brain injury, rodent surgical procedures as well as molecular biology techniques, quantitative microscopy, qPCR, and protein analysis is required. Additional desirable experience includes flow cytometry, confocal/two-photon microscopy, primary cell culture, immunohistochemistry, and/or behavioral testing.

Applicants must not have more than 3 years of postdoctoral research experience and should have at least two first-authored, published research manuscripts. Candidates should be highly motivated and independent with the ability to work in a dynamic team environment. They should have strong organizational, oral, and written communications skills.

To Apply:

Interested individuals are encouraged to forward their CV, contact information of at least three references, a brief description of past research experience and accomplishments, and expected availability date to Dr. Alan Faden at afaden@som.umaryland.edu .
