Job Summary: Under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee, The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the Ph.D. or other doctoral degree.


Additional Department Summary: The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at The University of Alabama is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position under the supervision of Dr. Yang-Ki Hong. This position is available to individuals with research interests in electromagnetics, magnetic materials, EMI, and permanent magnet synchronous motors for electric vehicles.

Successful candidates will hold a terminal degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in research. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity.


Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or other terminal degree in a field of research represented within the College of Engineering.

Candidates will need to have completed the Ph.D. degree requirements by the start of employment. Skills and Knowledge: First-principles calculations, EMI materials design, and synthesis of rare-earth free magnetic materials experiences are needed for developing spoke-type and energy-shifting permanent magnet synchronous motors for electric vehicles.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience with VASP, WIEN2k, and ANSYS electronics software packages. Strong quantum mechanics knowledge and publication record.
