Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The final title of Associate Clinical Professor or Clinical Professor will be determined by the applicant’s education and experience.

The faculty member and Director should be an impressive educator, entrepreneurial in their work, and a talented leader with a passion for nonprofit leadership and social innovation.

The position is a collaboration between the Do Good Institute and the School of Public Policy. The position’s main roles include:
  • A faculty appointment in the School of Public Policy with teaching responsibilities,
  • Leading the development and expansion of Nonprofit Executive Education and Training, and
  • Fundraising, revenue generation, and partnership development.

This position teaches and leads the creation, development, and success of revenue-generating nonprofit executive education and training (credit and non-credit) to enhance the ability of nonprofit leaders and social innovators to be successful and amplify their impact on the world.

This position will manage partnerships, raises funding for fellowships and other program funding, and oversee fellowship awards for aspiring and current nonprofit professionals to access education and training programs through the Do Good Institute and the School of Public Policy. The Director’s fundraising and revenue generation efforts will be supported by DGI, SPP, and university development professionals.

The position will serve as the Academic Director of the Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management and Leadership program, which is an executive education partnership between the Institute and the School. The Academic Director will provide continuous evaluation and improvement to ensure a high-quality and relevant program, assistance with identifying program instructors, and faculty support.

The position will directly supervise one or more individuals and manage budgets with the support of DGI’s Assistant Director for Operations and their Operations team.

The position is expected to be a 12 month appointment.

Teaching
Teach three courses every 12 months that advance credit-based Nonprofit Management and Leadership education. The courses will have a focus on experiential social impact. The courses could also include a focus on social innovation, nonprofit leadership, philanthropy, social entrepreneurship, or related areas.

The position provides leadership for the growth of the Graduate Certificate, which is an executive education partnership between the Institute and the School.
Training Programs, revenue generation, fundraising and partnerships
The position provides leadership for the development, evaluation, and/or advancement of training programs through the Institute and for nonprofit leaders and social innovators.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Master’s degree in higher education, business, nonprofit, public, or social sector(s) or other fields relevant to the position.

Experience:
  • 10+ years of relevant professional work experience in higher education, nonprofit, public, or social sector(s)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and grow programs as well as generate revenue and/or fundraise.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated excellence as an educator, including overwhelmingly positive feedback from students and peers
  • Instructional expertise and experience in experiential learning educational programs
  • Ability to manage, mentor and support the development of multiple team members and faculty
  • Experience developing and implementing revenue generation and fundraising strategies
  • Ability to cultivate and steward important partnership relationships
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills to manage multiple deadlines, projects, contacts, and details
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as cooperatively in a team environment
  • Ability to think strategically and turn ideas into action
  • Must possess sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy in working with a variety of personalities and constituencies internally, across UMD, and externally
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion and belonging.

  • Experience leading a nonprofit organization
  • PhD given the position will teach graduate courses
  • Familiarity with the systems and processes of the University of Maryland or a similarly large and complex university or similar educational organization.
  • Experience and knowledge of how to effectively deliver education in virtual, in-person, hybrid, and other educational mediums.
  • Emerging or established knowledge and interest in theories and best practices related to philanthropy, nonprofit leadership, student leadership, service-learning, civic engagement, social impact, or social innovation.
