Job Description

The University of Notre Dame Enterprises and Events (UEE) division is currently hiring for the position of Executive Sous Chef within the department of Three Leaf Catering. The UEE division leads the University’s event management, hospitality, and customer service functions while supporting student life, academic endeavors, and research initiatives. As part of the event management role, the division is responsible for the planning and execution of a wide range of University events from Commencement to concerts and special events on football game weekends. The division is a major contributor of revenue to the University’s mission and employs the largest number of staff on campus with over 1,200 full-time, part-time, temporary, and on-call staff.

Why this position?
The Executive Sous Chef is responsible for creating high quality seasonal / custom menus, overseeing client menu tastings and directing food preparation under the Executive Chef’s supervision. In addition, the Executive Sous Chef is responsible for sourcing high quality ingredients, preparing high quality / tasty food and uplifting presentation of food to ensure 100% guest satisfaction are pillars for this role. This role also involves attending weekly menu reading meetings, supervising kitchen staff and coaching them to execute specialty menus. Additional responsibilities of the Executive Sous Chef include staff scheduling and food purchasing. In this role, a flexible schedule is required – ability to work late evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

This position is with University Enterprises and Events at the University of Notre Dame and is eligible for a $1,000 sign-on bonus (1/2 paid after 90 and 180 days of continuous employment). Candidates are only eligible if they are a new employee to the University – current Notre Dame employees who transfer are not eligible. Other rules and conditions apply.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Culinary or a Graduate of Certified Apprentice Program
  • 5 to 6 years of experience working all culinary stations in a full service menu kitchen.
  • Must have good leadership skills and the propensity to engage with the team

Preferred Qualifications

  • ACF certified Sous-Chef
  • ServSafe Certification
  • Leadership/supervisory seminars offered by the University (including FMS and C-board training)
