Application open for a Postdoctoral Position at the Institute for Human Rights at the University of Alabama at Birmingham 

 

Position Description

The Institute for Human Rights (IHR) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a qualified candidate for a postdoctoral scholar for the 2023-2024 academic year (renewal possible). The fellow will contribute to the national and international visibility and reputation of IHR by pursuing research on themes that promote IHR’s mission and its values. The postdoc will be primarily supervised by Dr. Tina Kempin Reuter, the Director of IHR and Director of UAB Social Science and Justice Research (SSJR). The postdoc will be expected to work on research projects in the area of human rights, social justice, and equity and to work collaboratively with UAB IHR and SSJR faculty and scholars while also making progress toward publication of their own ongoing research.

This is a renewable, 12-month position, starting mid-August 2023. During the period of the fellowship, the postdoc is expected to be in residence and work with faculty as coauthors on research projects, conduct their own research, participate in research seminars, and otherwise contribute to the research mission of IHR and SSJR. In addition, the postdoc is expected to teach one course per semester and serve as senior editor of the IHR blog. In addition to competitive salary and benefits, the postdoc will receive an allowance for research/conference-related travel and expenses, access to office space, and other resources from IHR and SSJR.

Qualifications

To be eligible, candidates must complete their PhD by August 1, 2023. A PhD in the Social Sciences, Humanities, Education, or related fields with a focus on human rights, equity, and/or justice is required, and interest in rights of underserved communities and training in qualitative methods preferred.
