Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, has an immediate need for a full-time Event Coordinator in the Office of Student Life. The work schedule is Monday-Friday 8:30 am -5:00 pm with some evenings and weekends depending upon the need and the event or activity being held. This is a non- bargaining, non-exempt, grade 23 position. Non-exempt positions are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College.

Montgomery College promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, diversity, and inclusiveness. This position is eligible for telework up to one (1) day per week after successful completion of initial employment probationary period.

Under supervision and with direction from the Director of Student Life, the Event Coordinator plans, coordinates and implements events and activities on behalf of the Office of Student Life.  Contacts for this position are generally with other staff members, students and faculty to obtain information to and provide information to regarding planning events and activities.   

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Plans, coordinates, and manages all aspects of student programs and activities
  • Schedules venues, solicits and confirms participation from internal and external resources
  • Advises the Student Activities Board and helps to develop student centered program and services
  • Maintains calendar and schedule of events
  • Manages social media accounts
  • Solicits bid, initiate and processes contracts and all necessary paperwork as it relates to programming
  • Develops and initiates marketing material for events and programs; editing and proofing correspondence
  • Creates and distributes correspondence to campus community relating to events and programs
  • Recruits student, staff, faculty and administrator volunteers for programs and events 
  • Collaborates with staff in planning and implementing events using?the five phases of successful event management: research, design, planning, coordination and evaluation 
  • Performs general administrative duties
  • Orders food and supplies
  • Hires, trains, and supervises orientation leaders and student volunteers as well as develops and facilitates training modules
  • Assesses current trends to stay current on best practices within Student Affairs 
  • Attends campus and college-wide meetings on behalf of Director 
  • Maintains data and provides status updates to the Director of Student Life
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Marketing, Event Planning and Management, Hospitality Management, Public Relations or another relevant field.
  • Three (3) years of office management experience; including the planning and coordination of social activities for the office of an executive or college administrator.
  • The equivalent combination of education, training, certification or experience which provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented, flexible to change, be proactive, collaborative, work well under pressure and meet deadlines, and be results oriented working well with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to review contracts, work effectively with Campus performers and entertainers and assist with budget preparation.

Hiring Range $24.45 to $39.10 per hour. Initial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity. New hires are typically placed between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range.
