Full Time Tenure Track-Physical Education/Head Men's & Women's

Job Description

THE POSITION

The Compton Community College District is seeking an innovative individual for a full-time tenure-track teaching assignment in physical education and serve as the head coach for both the Men's and Women's Soccer program at the Compton College. The instructional program is designed to meet the educational needs of students majoring in physical education. Duties associated with the position include participation in a variety of campus and divisional activities such as faculty meetings, committee work, student activities, office hours, and curriculum/instructional development. The selected candidate will also serve as head men's & women's soccer coach (in and off season) and the instructor of record for both the in-season and off-season soccer conditioning classes. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview, which will include a teaching demonstration on an assigned topic.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position requires a commitment to the college including 15-20 hours of teaching per week. Evening, weekend, or dual enrollment classes may be scheduled based on the department's needs and student demand. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Deliver instruction in the areas of Physical Education, including in-season and off-season conditioning classes, through lectures, demonstrations, evaluations, orientations, and prescribed individualized instruction in all classes;

Develop and update courses and curricula, develop and assess Student/Program Learning Outcomes and participate in the Program Review process;

Develop resources, materials and strategies, including multimedia technology to teach students in a multicultural environment;

Participate in department and other campus meetings;

Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and class no-shows in accordance with district policy, rules, regulations, and procedures;

Maintain professional and ethical academic standards;

Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disabled, and ethnic background of community college faculty, staff and students;

Recruit players for the Women's and Men's Soccer Teams and Coach both Women's and Men's Soccer Teams

 

Required Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise, or adaptive physical education OR

Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND Master's in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy OR

Possess a valid California Community College instructor credential in appropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990 (per California Education Code 87355) OR

The equivalent- Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above, must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above.

Two years of head coaching experience

Have sensitivity to and understanding of multi-cultural, diverse environments and college students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Recent community college teaching experience.

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS SALARY RANGE: $60,431 - $89,569 (depending upon education and experience)

The College provides a diversified insured benefit program for all full-time employees, including medical, dental, vision and life insurance. Dependent medical, dental and vision insurance is available, toward which the College and the employee may contribute.

Paid sick leave is granted equal to one day for each month of service. Sick leave may be accumulated indefinitely. Rather than State Disability Insurance, limited sick-leave benefits are available for days beyond the earned sick-leave days. Long-term disability income-protection insurance is also available.

Full-time employees contribute a percentage of their regular salary to either the State Teachers' Retirement System (STRS) or to the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) and Social Security

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Candidates selected for employment will be required to provide verification of work authorization in the form of a passport, valid driver's license, or other equivalent identification, and social security card. An annual in season stipend of $5,000 and an annual out of season stipend of $1,250 are provided for coaching responsibilities

 

ENVIRONMENT:

Outdoor environment; driving a vehicle to conduct work; evening or variable hours.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned essential functions of this job description are essential physical requirements. The chart below indicates the percentage of time spent on each of the following essential physical requirements.

  3. Occasional = 25-50 percent

  4. Very Frequent = 76 percent and above

INTERVIEW EXPENSES

Only individuals identified for FINAL interviews are eligible for specified reimbursement. Reimbursement will be limited to economy airfare (to and from point of origin) and for meals and lodging.
