Job Description

Position Objective

 

The Automotive Technician faculty are responsible for planning, organizing, and instructing the ASE-certified curriculum designed to prepare students for a career in the automotive industry. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with other instructors in the automotive programs and carry out functions related to the position as described below. This position may require the ability to teach courses in all 8 ASE automotive areas. Still, the main subject courses for this position are automotive ignition systems, automotive fuel systems, automotive emissions control systems, engine minor mechanical repair, and engine major mechanical repair.

This position is represented by the Clover Park Federation of Teachers, Local 3913, AFT/ AFT Washington.

Duties and Tasks (Essential Functions)

 

Duty: Provide classroom and lab instruction utilizing a variety of teaching techniques to prepare students for entry-level employment in the Automotive industry. 

  • Create, implement, and modify curriculum as required to meet learning outcomes. 
  • Maintain and manage classroom environment, equipment, tools, and supplies. 
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of professionalism and mutual respect with students. 
  • Maintain a safe environment through instruction, policy, and continuous evaluation of program equipment and laboratory space.
  • Utilize online learning management system and incorporate multiple modalities into curriculum planning. 
  • Maintain accurate student progress records updated in a timely manner and assess and provide feedback on student learning. 
  • Submit student grades in a timely manner. 
  • Provide career guidance and job placement assistance. 

Duty: Perform administrative tasks for the Automotive Technician

program and the college.

  • Document and keep accurate records of student competency, performance, and attendance in accordance to the program and college policies.
  • Participate in program promotion events, program information sessions, and other program marketing activities. 
  • Work with the advisory committee, program faculty, and college administration to develop strategies for continuous program and course improvements. 
  • Attend college In-Service Day activities, department, division, and other meetings and college-related events as required. 
  • Serve as an active participant on college committees. 
  • Provide and maintain program information and communication with the college community.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • High School Diploma or GED. 
  • A minimum of three years of industry work experience as an automotive technician within the last five to seven years. 
  • Current ASE Master Technician Certification. 
  • Current ASE L-1 Certification or must achieve within 60 days of employment. 
  • Current ASE G-1 Certification or must achieve within 60 days of employment. 
  • Current Washington State driver’s license and good driving record. 
  • Proficiency in the areas of Engine repair minor and major overhaul, engine performance, automotive ignition and fuel systems. Automotive emission systems.
  • Current CPR/First Aid/Blood Borne Pathogens card or must complete training within 60 days of employment.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Ten years of full-time work experience as an Automotive Technician. 
  • Current ASE L-2 Certification. 
  • Teaching experience in a Community and Technical College setting. 
  • Experience delivering instruction and leadership in an industry setting. 
  • Degree/Certification in automotive Technology from an accredited college.
