Scripps Staff Scientist

Perform scientific tasks; in a microbial natural products lab, design and perform scientific experiments; record data provide analyses and interpretations

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Perform Natural products discovery using the genome mining method. Use bioinformatic tools to analyze the assembled genome data for hit discovery. Scale up the microbial fermentation and do purification and structural elucidation of known and new active natural products. Cultivate Actinomyces strains, harvest and purify gDNA isolation for genome sequencing.
• Perform mechanistic enzymology study for secondary metabolite biosynthesis, especially the enediyne natural products.
• Participate in project and laboratory meetings, keep current with compliance obligations, and have shared responsibility for the maintenance of common laboratory equipment and designated areas.
• Responsible for operating and maintenance of the centrifuge and chemical hood in the lab.
• Carry out experiments at the bench.
• Analyze data.
• Prepare reports and publications on a computer.
• Prepare sections of grant proposals on a computer.

Commensurate with experience.

Ph.D. in an appropriate scientific discipline required. A minimum of 2 years postdoctoral experience.
