Job Summary

The College of Lake County is currently searching for a fill-time Instructor, Electrical Engineering Technology. Responsibilities for the position include teaching a variety of Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) courses ranging from basic AC and DC courses to advanced circuit analysis. Courses are offered both in the day and evening during the fall and spring semesters. Faculty responsibilities include participating in program evaluation and curriculum development, program recruitment, working with business and industry to validate program competencies and develop internships, working with local high schools to identify/develop career pathways and opportunities for dual credit offerings, developing strategies to maximize program completion and retention rates, serving on division and college committees, and participate in college governance.

The faculty member will develop, prepare, and revise instructional materials as well as participate in program evaluation and curriculum planning and development. The instructor will participate in department, division, and general faculty meetings, serve on division and college committees, and participate in other forms of college service. Instructors are required to maintain an active program of professional development related to institutional objectives.

Required Qualification

Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Engineering or closely related field.

Minimum of two (2) years of experience working full-time in the engineering/manufacturing industry with experience in digital electronics, micro controllers, embedded systems, product design, and project management.

Ability to learn new technologies and stay informed over a broad spectrum of disciplines.

Special Instructions Summary

The priority deadline is February 12, 2023. Additional applications may be considered after the priority deadline. This position may remain open until filled. Applicants who will earn the required degree by May 31, 2023 will be considered.

Applicants selected for an interview will be required to submit a minimum of two (2) letters of recommendation and a teaching portfolio.

This is a full-time, tenure track faculty position. Salary placement is commensurate with education and experience. The minimum 2022–2023 academic year (Fall & Spring Semester) base salary range has not been determined. Optional contract for the summer session offers potential for significantly greater earnings.

The minimum 2021 – 2022 academic year (Fall & Spring Semester) base salary range was $60,913 with a master’s degree to $77,349 with a doctorate in the subject field.

Faculty may be assigned to any of the three CLC campuses; Grayslake, Lakeshore or Southlake. New faculty hires are required to attend orientation the week prior to the start date of August 14, 2023.

Foreign Transcripts: Transcripts issued outside the United States require a course-by-course analysis with an equivalency statement from a certified transcript evaluation service verifying the degree equivalency to that of an accredited institution within the USA.

Summary of Essential Functions

Teaching courses in the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. Maintain lab equipment in the labs that support those courses. Work closely with business and industry to validate program competencies and identify internships. Explore new methods of delivery to insure our program is meeting the needs of students. Develop strategies that will maximize program completion and course retention rates. Explore grant opportunities to support the advancement of technology and program offerings within electronics technology. Continue the development of articulation agreements so our students have opportunities for baccalaureate study.

Faculty members are expected to:

  • Select, prepare, and maintain current curriculum, course outlines, and printed and non-printed instructional materials. Revise and update course content as needed.
  • Provide instructional support to students by meeting with them outside of class if requested; be available for student consultation through phone, online/electronic communication, or appropriately established office hours; refer students, when appropriate, to sources of specialized services within the College.
  • Provide students and the Division an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the college, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria, and any other information required by the College, Division, or Department.
  • Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and/or examinations; provide feedback regularly and in a timely manner on student progress.
  • Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered.
  • Maintain office, discipline, grade, and division records as required by the College.
  • Use the appropriate College policies and procedures to resolve and document student complaints, concerns, and problems.
  • Ensure ADA compliance within classes assigned.
  • Assist in developing and administering discipline-appropriate measures of student academic achievement; use departmental assessment instruments as provided. Administer other assessments designed to measure student learning outcomes as requested and required by the department or college. Provide all results as requested.
  • Conduct all classes in accordance with an established and current course syllabus and approved textbook (and/or related instructional material). Meet all classes for the scheduled time. If unable to meet an assigned class, report absence to supervisor and division staff according to department procedures.
  • Submit all grades (mid-term/final) electronically prior to the required deadlines; provide the Registrar appropriate grade records.
  • Encourage students to submit course evaluations; review course evaluations when available and use feedback to improve course delivery.
  • Participates, when appropriate, in meetings of governance groups, College, division, and department committees. Attends faculty meetings, department meetings, and all other meetings called by authorized personnel. Attends Development Week activities and Commencement.
  • Maintains current knowledge of subject matter via professional development such as professional organization membership, attendance of seminars, conferences and classes, and professional publications.
  • Maintain a high level of professional ethics.
  • Remain current in compliance training including compliance under Title IX “Responsible Employee” and, if applicable, Clery Act Campus Security Authority.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
College: Knowledge of college policies, procedures, and practices; ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form; ability to perform all essential functions using safe work methods and following safety regulations relating to job; knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
