| Position Highlights | The Department of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Arizona (UA) is seeking a postdoctoral scholar in hydrology. As part of the effort, the successful candidate will work with a team of investigators from UA, Northern Arizona University (NAU), and Arizona State University (ASU), and the Arizona Department of Water Resources (DWR) to (1) identify where and when more water recharges to groundwater storage in the state of Arizona; and (2) predict the effects of land management and geo-engineering on groundwater recharge under changing climates. To achieve the goals, the post-doc will conduct a series of hydrological modeling experiments using land surface models and the National Water Model (NWM) with advanced modules of surface infiltration and groundwater recharge. The post-doc will report the research results in conferences and workshops with multiple stakeholders and write journal papers. This will be a great opportunity to engage with a variety of groups involved in water management in the Western U.S., which are actively seeking solutions to address the impacts of the ongoing millennium megadrought. The research efforts will also advance the NWM’s capability of predicting groundwater recharge over arid and semi-arid regions.
