Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The University of Maryland Counseling Center Research Unit produces a variety of research briefs, publishes articles in professional journals, and presents study findings at conferences and to the University campus community. Areas of Research include: Student development & retention; clinical service delivery; college students’ basic needs (food & housing security), academic success, and well-being; and multiculturalism, inclusiveness, & action research.

Essential duties/responsibilities:
  • Works with the Research Director to develop research questions and choose appropriate research methodologies.
  • Manages data from cross-sectional, mixed-methods (quantitative and qualitative), and longitudinal research.
  • Contributes to the designs of methodological tools for producing high-quality research.
  • Provides methodological support to the Research Director.
  • Manages data entry, coding, and analyses to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
  • Conducts analyses using NVivo, SPSS, Mplus, R, or other statistical software.
  • Reviews and organizes relevant literature.
  • Works with the team to prepare grant proposals, research reports, conference proposals/presentations, and articles for publication.
  • Works with the team to disseminate research findings for broadening research impacts.
  • Supervises the Research Unit’s research analyst and assistants during the Research Director’s absence.
  • When needed, participates in Counseling Center or VPSA committees and activities as assigned.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned by the Research Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Doctoral degree in counseling, psychology, counselor education, statistics and measurement, quantitative methodology, survey methodology, public health, human development, higher education, student affairs, or a related field.

Experience:
Experiences with writing reports or manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, including conducting a strong and ethically compliant literature review.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficiency with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Mplus, R, HLM).
  • Demonstrated organizational and excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong attention to detail.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Experience with large or qualitative data sets.
  • Experience with Tableau software.
