Job Summary

This position will help individuals increase credit scores, purchase a home and start or expand a small business via counseling services and presenting related workshops. The position mostly provides services at the Cogdell Learning Center, but travels to various locations in Midland.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of the educational requirement
Experience as a trainer, educator, speaker, or counselor
Knowledge of starting up a small business including planning procedures, financial statements, and business plan development
Knowledge of home buying process
Bilingual in Spanish
Computer literacy to include proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Small business experience preferred
Business plan development experience preferred
Experience in housing and credit counseling preferred

Essential Functions

Advise and assist individuals in the following areas:
• Starting or expanding a business
• Conducting marketing studies
• Designing record keeping systems
• Filing state and federal tax reports
• Using various computer applications and programs
• Credit counseling
• Improving credit
• Home buying process:
• credit history
• down payment requirements
• monthly income requirements
• debt ratios
• Network with entities/individuals interested in credit, homebuyer and starting a business topics
Teach the Homebuyer Education course in both English and Spanish
Facilitate, coordinate, and conduct related workshops in English and Spanish
Maintain confidential client business and financial records
Assist with the development of BEDC reports
Prepare weekly reports
Use a database software to enter services and extract service data
Attend out of town training when necessary
Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift or move up to 25 pounds
Use of manual dexterity
Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
Work mostly performed indoors, some outdoor Midland College or community events may be required
Work both on campus and off-campus
Travel for training, meetings, and assist on other campuses’ events both in and out of town
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time

Security Sensitivity

All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.

Min Salary

$23.00 per hour

Max Salary

$25.00 per hour

Pay Statement

Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
