Summary

The University of Michigan is looking for a Program Manager to become an active member of the Science, Technology, and Public Policy (STPP) team. As the Education Program Manager, you will provide oversight and management of STPP's existing educational programs, as well as oversee the creation, launch, and operation of educational opportunities and programming for new audiences, including U-M undergraduates, postdoctoral fellows, STEM and policy professionals, and community organizers. You will report to the STPP Managing Director.

The STPP Program is a research center at the Ford School of Public Policy that includes research, educational, and community engagement activities. The centerpiece of our work is a graduate certificate program, which currently enrolls around 100 Masters and PhD students from across University of Michigan training them to develop competency in the ethical, political, social, and equitydimensions of science, technology, and related public policies. The STPP Program has been growing in recent years, with new applied research and community partnership initiatives, and we are now planning to expand our educational activities.

Responsibilities*

Program development and implementation

  • Conduct research to determine areas of interest and demand for undergraduate programming in science and technology policy.

  • Ensure compliance with U-M and Ford School processes for the development of new academic programs.

  • Develop long and short-term strategic plans to ensure program advancement and improvement.

  • Work collaboratively with internal staff, faculty, and students to develop programs and activities.

Program and operations management

  • Manage administrative operations related to STPP's educational programs, including recruitment, academic and career advising, and maintaining student and alumni records.

  • Plan events for STPP students and alumni such as lecture series, networking events, and webinars.

  • Cultivate relationships with STPP faculty affiliates, alumni, and potential employers.

  • Develop partnerships with faculty, departments, and external organizations to enhance both new and existing educational programs

Required Qualifications*

  • Graduate-level degree in public policy, education, science and technology studies, information science, or a relevant social science discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Knowledge of and interest in science communication and/or science and technology policy

  • Commitment to social justice and diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • At least 2 years experience working directly with undergraduate or graduate students; this can include experience gained during internships, as a graduate student instructor, or other part-time campus employment.

  • Experience with program management and evaluation concepts and practices (quantitative and/or qualitative)

  • Writing, presentation, and public speaking skills
