Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Full-time licensed mental health provider to join the Clinical and Sports Psychology staff to provide clinical and sport psychology services to student-athletes in an effort to enhance their personal, academic, and athletic success within the University of Maryland Intercollegiate Athletics Department. This position is a full-time employee of the University Health Center and its Sports Medicine working collaboratively with a team of mental health professionals, psychologists, psychiatrists, athletic trainers, dietitians, and team physicians providing comprehensive psychological services including individual and group psychotherapy, initial assessments, crisis intervention, consultation, outreach and performance enhancement services to student-athletes. In addition, this position will assist the Program Director with managing referrals to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care of student-athletes; developing and disseminating educational materials to coaches, student-athletes and teams; and participating in new student orientation and other student-athlete programming. This position will serve as a member of the Clinical and Sports Psychology Staff and the Sports Medicine team.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certification, etc.):
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in a field of psychology or Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.).
  • Licensed (or license eligible) clinical professional counselor (LGPC, LCPC).
  • Licensed clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
  • Licensed clinical Psychologist or Counseling Psychologist in the State of Maryland.

Experience:
Minimum of two years of experience providing mental health services for a college or athletic setting.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • A Ph.D., or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an academic program accredited by the American Psychological Association or Canadian Psychological Association.
  • Specialized training in sport psychology (e.g., training, practicum, etc.) and/or CMPC certification..
  • Successful completion of an accredited pre-doctoral internship program.
  • Experience working with students with learning disabilities.
  • College/university counseling center experience.
  • Member of the US Olympic Training Referral Network.
  • Strong understanding of Athletic Department culture.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.

Physical Demands

The scope of the position frequently requires weekend and evening work with team travel (Nonstandard work hours). While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee operates a computer and other office devices such telephones, copy machines, fax machines, etc; constantly moves about the facility; attends practices and events; constantly communicates via telephone, email and in-person with others to exchange accurate information and coordinated care.
