Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Military and Veterans Services helps to recruit, counsel and support our Fordham Veterans.

Essential Functions

Veterans’ Services:

  • Assists in the development of programs and ongoing on-campus initiatives in support of the military/ veteran/dependent/student community.
  • Reports to the Director of Military and Veterans Services for on-going management and government relations
  • Plans and implements veteran recruiting events and activities, including events at military units, college fairs, community presentations, campus events, and campus visitations.
  • Assists in filing all required reports with the Federal and State Governments.
  • Assesses the success of programs that increase military and veteran enrollment at Fordham University and implement such programs.
  • Prepares outreach information (flyers, brochures, newsletters, etc.) for distribution to internal and external stakeholders and students.
  • Works with the Provost’s Office to provide assistance and training, which includes preparing and presenting workshops and training for faculty and staff. Consults with college personnel, faculty, and community members regarding the unique experience that veteran and active military students bring to the campus.
  • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, maintaining professional contact with colleague, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed.
  • Conducts Veterans’Three plus years of experience directed related to Veterans’ Services. Orientations at both campuses throughout the year.
  • Serves as the advisor to the SVA at Fordham and manages and advises the SVAF on the student veterans’ budget.
  • Serves as a VA Work Study worksite supervisor and oversees the operations of the Veteran Resource Centers.
  • Serves as the ombudsperson for the veterans in their dealing with the VA, especially with regard to benefits and the prompt provision of the scholarship money to which they are entitled.
  • Establishes and consults with board of advisors who will assist the Director in the discharge of his/ her duties.
  • Supports the overall success of Fordham Veterans’ Initiative by performing all other duties as assigned.

University’s ROTC Programs:

  • Assists the Director with the national and regional commanders of those ROTC programs in which Fordham students enroll. Deals with Fordham Army ROTC command structure and assist with the Air Force ROTC programs headquartered at other metropolitan area campuses.
  • Assists with the supervision of the ROTC operations on Fordham’s campuses; as well as the Army PMS on campus.
  • Works with the Dean of the Gabelli School of Business on ROTC matters.
  • Establishes and consults with a board of advisors drawn from both the ROTC alumni base and the academic and student affairs divisions of the University.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or in lieu of the degree a minimum of four years of related experience.
  • Three plus years of experience directed related to Veterans Services.
  • Former Military and ROTC experience
  • Superior communication skills to interact effectively with veterans, students, VA officials, the public, University academic and administrative personnel.
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

Minimum Starting Salary: $58,500

Maximum Starting Salary: $74,000

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
