Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Office of Letters and Sciences (LTSC) is one of the largest undergraduate advising offices at the University of Maryland; primarily focused on assisting students in choosing majors and facilitating student preparation for admission to limited enrollment programs.
This position is part of a large and diverse staff of engaged academic advisors. In collaboration with relevant academic and support services units, academic advisors provide expanded support designed to increase retention and graduation rates of LTSC students. This position provides comprehensive advising to a caseload of students, that includes but is not limited to, first and second year students, low and high credit transfers, international students, probation and dismissal students, student-athletes, and more.
All advisors support drop-in advising, advise for summer and winter orientation programs, assist with recruitment events, workshops, and teach first-year transition to the university courses.

Experience:
- Minimum of two year’s professional experience working in higher education setting required.
- Experience with teaching and with advising students required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work cooperatively with LTSC staff of approximately 30.
- Able to thrive in high-volume academic advising operation.
- Possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills; well-organized, extremely motivated, and self-disciplined; and ability to keep multiple responsibilities current.
- Proficiency with, or ability to quickly learn, campus advising technology.
Preferences:
Preferences:
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience supporting students with academic or career exploration preferred.
- Experience with University of Maryland academic policies and procedures preferred but not necessary.
