Overview

The Longwood Center and Core for Structural & Chemical Biology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, directed by Sirano Dhe-Paganon, in collaboration with multi-disciplinary research teams studies in vitro cancer models of multiple myeloma, meduloblastoma, and pancreatic & colon cancer. We are seeking research technicians to join our efforts to uncover novel molecular mechanisms and discover and develop drugs for these disease targets. General activities include designing & executing experiments on recombinantly-purified oncogenes such as KRAS, C-MYC, and β-Catenin and analyzing & interpreting results to advance drug candidates. Primary responsibilities include performing recombinant protein expression and purification and conduct invitro biophysical and biochemical assays and screens that test and validate screening hits, chemical probes, and lead compounds.

Responsibilities also include crystallizing & freezing proteins and determining high-resolution structures by x-ray diffraction or cryo-em in order to characterize and discover mechanism of action. Technicians attend departmental seminars, work closely with other scientists in the lab, collaborate extensively with colleagues at Dana Farber, are included as author on relevant publications and intellectual property documents, and often pursue graduate school, medical school, or biotech industry.

Responsibilities

  • Execute recombinant protein purifications and/or biochemical, biophysical, and crystallographic assays and screens
  • Develop research methods
  • Maintain lab notebooks
  • Report & publish research data and results

Qualifications

  • BA/MS degree required in biochemistry, biology, chemical biology, or equivalent preferred
  • Exceptional communication skills, and ability to effectively present data within the laboratory and to collaborators
  • Adept at working within cross-functional scientific teams to deliver project data within timelines
  • At least two years of availability required
