Summary of Job Duties:

As a multi-disciplinary team member, the incumbent will work on antibiotic alternatives for controlling food borne pathogens which affect poultry and human health. The incumbent will also work on sustainable feed alternatives in poultry production and collaborates on projects to determine the effect of insect inclusion on bird health, performance, intestinal microbiota composition and the presence of pathogenic microbes. Specifically, the incumbent will apply microbiology, nutrition, immunology, physiology, and molecular biology techniques to study sustainable feed alternatives and alternative strategies to reduce antibiotic use in poultry production. The selected individual will train and assist graduate students in designing and completing the research studies.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Recent PhD in Animal Science, Poultry Science, Microbiology, or closely related field.
  • Knowledge of animal physiology, microbiology, poultry production, avian physiology, and disease pathogenesis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Applicants with extensive laboratory experience and background in microbiology, molecular biology, and nutrition.
  • Additionally, the applicant is expected to have previous experience working with microbial analysis, gel electrophoresis (DNA and protein), ELISA, designing primers, DNA extraction, qPCR and ddPCR.
