Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC’s 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff are dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education. UBHC, one of the largest providers of behavioral health care in the country, has a budget of $260 million and has 15 sites throughout New Jersey. 
Services are readily accessible and include: inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family/caregiver support, community outreach and case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school from preschool through high school. Specialty services include the New Jersey suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special needs children and child protective service workers. In FY2016, UBHC treated 16,199 consumers, had 24,502 admissions, and touched the lives of 19,441 individual callers through peer support. In addition, UBHC is the primary mental health training resource for the New Jersey departments of Human Services, Children and Families, and Corrections, delivering 16,000 trainings each year.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey , is seeking a Forensic Mental Health Clinician for the Department of Adult Medical Services within University Correctional Health Care (UCHC). The Forensic Mental Health Clinician,supervises unit interns, trainees and staff as assigned. Independently completes specialized psychological testing and assessment of clinical needs of adults sentenced to the Department of Corrections, recognizing the unique needs and behaviors of adult and seniors. Arrives at diagnoses with precision and accuracy. Develops treatment plans based on assessment that outlines preferred treatment modality. Assesses and makes referrals for higher levels of care as appropriate. Skilled in in providing crisis intervention, group, and individual therapies.
Among the key duties of this position are the following: 
  • Provides direct clinical supervision to psychology interns, trainees and staff as assigned.
  • Provides psychological testing and evaluations of referred adult inmates/patients.
  • As assigned, provides crisis intervention, individual, and group psychotherapy & psycho-educational programming as clinically indicated to assigned inmates/patients.
  • As assigned, assumes overall case management responsibilities for assigned inmates/patients including coordination of treatment and liaison with community agencies as measured by supervisory observation and record review.
  • Maintains appropriate inmate/patient records in a timely manner as mandated by UCHC policy.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the field.
  • Intervenes clinically based on a theoretical orientation as observed by supervisor.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D. in Psychology with relevant experience that includes training in psychological testing and minimum of two (2) years’ experience, including graduate training, working in a behavioral health care or related setting.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Candidate must be licensed in the State of New Jersey as a practicing Psychologist or possess an unrestricted permit to practice psychology in New Jersey (license) by the New Jersey Board of Psychological Examiners.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Employees will be subject to and must comply with all security regulations and procedures of NJ Department of Corrections and the assigned facility(ies) including, but not limited to sign in logs or electronic time clocks, searches of person and property, etc.
  • Lifting of up to 10 pounds.
  • A generally crisis oriented, secure environment working with adults, some who exhibit aggressive, threatening behavior.
  • Entering and movement within the facility will be controlled by Correctional Officers.
