Position Highlights The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer through patient care, research, and education. The UACC is the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center headquartered in the state of Arizona.

The UACC is seeking a Program Manager for the T32 Postdoc Fellowship program. The purpose of this position is to manage the T32 Cancer Prevention and Control Health Disparities Postdoctoral Training Program at the University of Arizona Cancer Center. The program provides preparation for an individual who wishes to pursue an independent academic research career in cancer health disparities that contributes to decreases in cancer morbidity and mortality in underserved populations. Activities will include management of day to day operations for the T32 grant which includes completion of appropriate progress reports, management of budgets, management of post-doctoral research proposals and related applications, hiring of post-doctoral fellows and oversight of Individual Development Plans, support of Fellow-mentor(s) communications and Fellow productivity. This position will report directly to the program directors to ensure the successful completion of required program activities.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily operations and coordinate program activities for fellows in the T32 CPC Health Disparities Postdoctoral training grant.
    • Responsibilities include facilitation of purchase of supplies and travel, reporting responsibilities for postdoctoral trainees, and facilitation of evaluation process for trainees, programs, and reporting of results.
  • Administer all written communications with NIH related to T32 CPC Health Disparities Postdoctoral training grant.
    • Responsibilities include preparation of periodic reports, financial statements and records on program activities, progress, and status for investigators, advisors, UA, NIH or other agencies.
  • Interact and maintain liaison between the T32 and its participants, including external advisors, Executive Committee and investigators. This will include coordination of scientific meetings with the T32 Internal Advisory Board (IAB) and the External Advisory Board (EAB).
  • Promote trainee participation in T32 training activities that promote excellence in lab research, teaching and scholarship.
    • Responsibilities include maintenance of annual calendar for the Training Program and assistance in implementation of curriculum and workshops for scientific training and career development,.
    • Assurance of receipt of documents from trainees.
    • Supporting Fellow IDP develop, regular mentor-mentee meetings, and tracking of mentee progress in grant development and peer-reviewed publication.
  • Development and dissemination of promotional and public relations materials for recruitment.
    • Responsibilities include targeted advertising, website updates, correspondence with CPC program leaders nationally, tracking recruitment success and marketing effectiveness.
    • Handling all queries for program information and linking potential Fellows to potential mentors to enhance program application quality and applicant’s future career success.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to manage components of a research project with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with different groups or individuals.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Skill in writing and editing articulate reports for external stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
Preferred Qualifications* Completion of a Master’s in public health, MBA, or similar field with at least 3 years managing a research project.
* Experience managing and tracking budgets and writing external reports. * Experience working with doctoral and postdoctoral level students.
* Experience working with NIH reporting systems and UA post-award.
* Experience with peer-reviewed writing and/or grant development.
