Research areas include i) drug discovery and drug development research for the treatment of corneal diseases, ii) developing genetically modified animal models of corneal disease, iii) identifying novel therapeutic targets and mechanisms for translational research. The laboratory employs genetic mouse models, cell culture systems, and multidisciplinary approaches ranging from Biomedical Engineering, Cell Biology, and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Applicants should have solid conceptual and research backgrounds in one or more of the following areas: cellular biology, pharmaceutical sciences, drug design, tissue engineering, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, or in a related discipline. Individuals who are highly motivated and willing to take risks for innovation are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates are expected to work independently, yet in a collaborative environment with a group of scientists with various areas of expertise.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research

Investigate pathophysiological mechanisms using cell culture systems and mouse models.

Conduct biochemical and cell biological experiments.

Develop novel approaches to investigate protein-protein interactions and disease mechanisms.

Collect and analyze experimental data and evaluate relevance of the data.

Compare experimental data with published work and develop and test new hypotheses.
