About the Department

University Temporary Services (UTS) is housed within Human Resources and is the in-house temporary service for NC State University and UNC-Chapel Hill. UTS provides cost-effective, qualified temporary personnel in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout campus.

UTS has been part of NC State’s campus community since October 1980; and in July 2010, NC State partnered with UNC-Chapel Hill to create another UTS location to serve the Carolina campus community.

Our mission is to provide quality temporary staffing services to support the teaching, research, and service mission of the university.

Essential Job Duties

The Lead Staffing Specialist reports to the Recruiting Manager and provides quality temporary staffing services to assigned customer (NC State or UNC Chapel Hill). The Lead Staffing Specialist serves as a primary point of contact for assigned customer and provides senior-level recruitment services and guidance to recruitment team in activities such as recruitment, candidate sourcing, screening, assessment, placement, and employee counseling. 

In addition to the the responsibilities of the Staffing Specialist role, the Lead Staffing Specialist works with the Recruiting Manager to ensure that goals are met as related to volume of activities, new business, marketing, and service enhancements and provides advanced guidance to the Staffing Specialists team serving as resource and mentor to other Staffing Specialists.

A primary function is independently ensuring that UTS identifies, screens, and places the most qualified applicants to each job request to ensure customer satisfaction and continued business solvency.

The Lead Staffing Specialist interacts regularly with campus officials and administrators. Excellent judgment must be exercised to analyze situations, troubleshoot problems, and take appropriate actions.

The Lead Staffing Specialist will also serve and direct campus on any temporary hiring, regardless of using UTS services.

Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

  • Temporary staffing experience.
  • Professional leadership/mentorship experience.
