Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Department of Biology at the University of Maryland, College Park, is searching for a Professional Track faculty member (Lecturer or Senior Lecturer) to teach, coordinate, update, and modernize upper-level undergraduate laboratories in Cell Biology and Physiology (BSCI330) and Mammalian Systems Physiology (BSCI451). The faculty hire is expected to oversee the lab operation, curriculum, and manage the Teaching Assistants, but is not expected to personally instruct each laboratory section.
 
After one year, the successful applicant will be asked to contribute to undergraduate advising and the teaching program by lecturing in an introductory course, the lecture associated with one of these lab courses, or another course in the applicant’s area of specialization.  
 
This is a non-tenure-track, academic year position which comes with a competitive salary, full benefits package, and opportunities for professional growth.

Professional track instructional faculty play a crucial role in the academic life of the Biological Sciences Program and in the biology department, both in the classroom and in serving as leaders in innovative undergraduate teaching and learning. The commitment of the academic units to undergraduate education has been recognized through numerous awards to faculty and lecturers for their teaching accomplishments.

Salary Minimum: For the 9-month academic year, the minimum salary is within the 70,000s with the maximum dependent upon experience and rank. There are opportunities for additional compensation for teaching in winter and summer sessions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Ph.D. in biology, cell biology, physiology, animal science, or closely related field.

Experience:
Experience teaching at the college level

Other:
  • Evidence of commitment to undergraduate education.
  • Excellence in teaching, mentoring, and supervising undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants.

Preferences:

Preferences:
Experience with the latest teaching technologies and with course and lab development is highly desirable.
