Summary

The Obstetric Initiative (OBI) is seeking a motivated senior analyst to join the team. OBI is a statewide Collaborative Quality Initiative (CQI)  working with 75 hospitals to improve the safety, experience, and equity of maternity care in Michigan. The project is working to address variation in obstetric care with a first initiative of supporting vaginal birth and safely lowering the cesarean delivery rate among low-risk patients.

Candidates for this position must be driven, with an intellectual desire to continue learning, as well as the ability to prioritize and juggle multiple projects. The analyst has the unique opportunity to work with a variety of datasets, including clinically abstracted data from 75 hospitals across the state of Michigan via the Obstetrics Initiative (OBI), survey data, and claims data from both private and public payers. Strong analytic, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills are critical to this role. The ideal candidate will work independently and efficiently. Responsibilities*

Statistical Analysis

  • Implement proper statistical analysis to accurately and fairly measure hospital performance
  • Design analysis and communicate results with various audiences
  • Collaborate efficiently with OBI team to summarize, interpret, and present results in written and visual formats
  • Work with collaborators to define scientific questions, formulate models and methods, apply appropriate statistical methods, and advise on presentation of results
  • Support the development and publication of OBI reports and academic manuscripts, including independently drafting Methods and Results sections
  • Document procedures for future reference and make recommendations for data analysis process improvements
Reporting
  • Design and prepare various analytic reports and dashboards to OBI internal team, participating hospitals, study sponsors, and collaborating programs
  • Respond to questions, data needs, and ad-hoc analytic requests from collaborating hospitals
Data Management
  • Extract, transform, and link various datasets into usable forms for statistical analyses
  • Participate as a team member in discussions on analysis and improvement of data collection, quality of data analyses, programming and documentation
  • Actively contribute as an intellectual partner to team discussions about cohort creation, variable definitions, merging existing and novel datasets, and opportunities to improve data collection
Other Duties as Assigned

Required Qualifications*

  • Five years of professional experience in data analysis (R and Python preferable, SAS and Stata are acceptable)
  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Public Health or related field
  • Strong statistical background, especially in modeling correlated data
  • Ability to write clear and concise technical documentation, summaries of various methodologies, and descriptions of statistical results
  • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with OBI team and other stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and efficiently work on multiple projects with minimal supervision

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Public Health, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Experience with complex data structure and linkages between data sources
  • Experience in building dashboards (for example using Tableau, R Shiny, Python Dash)
  • Experience with building reproducible analytic reports (for example Rmarkdown and Jupyter notebook)
  • Experience in managing and analyzing projects using large administrative and medical databases.
  • Experience with data collection in clinical research or collaborative quality improvement
  • Experience with version control tools, such as GitHub and GitKraken
  • Knowledge of Agile framework, such as SCRUM
  • Experience serving marginalized communities and/or contributing to efforts to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion in organizations or communities

Additional Information

This position is a hybrid/remote-first workforce; however, certain meetings are mandatory and may require the employee to be present in person. Reasonable notice of in-person meetings will be given. Remote work is supported and expected as appropriate within one’s role.  

Background Screening
