Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, has an immediate need for a Student Employment Specialist in the Student Employment Services (SES) Department.  The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm, with some evening and offsite events during the Academic Year. This is a non-bargaining, non-exempt, grade 27 position. Non-exempt positions are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. Montgomery College promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, diversity, and inclusiveness. This position is eligible for telework up to one day per week after successful completion of initial employment probationary period.

Student Employment Specialist is responsible for the support of students and alumni seeking employment.


Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Teaches students effective job search strategies
  • Meets with students in-person and virtually (through Zoom or Teams) to develop/edit resumes, instruct them on use of online job search tools, and conduct mock interview sessions
  • Assist students in identifying specific employment goals that support career/education aspirations and accomplishments  
  • Makes presentations to student groups and classes on job search/employment related topics. 
  • Reviews, edits and approves student resumes posted on the College’s online job board “College Central”
  • Coordinates campus-based employment recruitment activities
  • Promotes SES events/services through various marketing and outreach efforts
  • Tracks student activity and outcomes and provides reports as needed
  • Collaborates with other college departments to coordinate employment-related services
  • Stays current on knowledge of career/employment information, trends and online tools and resources
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, business, education, or a related field
  • Three years of experience providing career/employment services to job seekers which may include conducting workshops to groups on job search and pre-employment related topics
  • Experienced in using career/employment/recruitment platforms
  • Skills in verbal and written communications, interpersonal relationships, making presentations, conducting workshops.
  • Skill in using office technology such as MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint and internet.
  • Ability to advise and instruct on a variety of career/employment topics; to design and develop workshops; to work independently to accomplish program objectives; to establish and maintain affirmative professional working relationships with a culturally diverse student and employer population.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Nationally recognized career/employment related certifications (GCDF, Resume Writing, Interview Coaching etc.)
  • Master’s degree

Hiring Range $29.58 to $38.45 per hour/annually. Initial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity.  Please include a complete resume including all relevant and related work experience.
