Assistant Chemist - Experimental Physical Chemistry/Chemical Physics

Argonne

Job Description

The Chemical Science and Engineering Division (CSE) of Argonne National Laboratory is seeking applicants for a junior research scientist position in the area of experimental physical chemistry or chemical physics.

The research project aims at discovery effects of nuclear and electronic coherence on solar energy and photochemical processes. The experimental work involved setting up a new ultrafast laser system with multiple-pulse sequences in the ultrafast violet to infrared region with short femtosecond durations.

Position Requirements

  • Strong background and extensive hands-on experience on ultrafast laser spectroscopies are required, such as pump-probe transient absorption spectroscopy, broadband transient absorption spectroscopy, impulsive stimulated Raman spectroscopy, and ultrafast infrared spectroscopy

  • Comprehensive knowledge of fundamental mechanisms for solar and photochemical energy conversion with extensive expertise photoinduced energy and charge transfer in molecules, molecular assemblies and aggregates, especially those of transition metal complexes

  • The experience on molecular dynamics and quantum mechanical calculations are desirable

  • This position will involve a considerable amount of hands-on experiments in an existing laser laboratory and has extensive expertise on a variety of structural and dynamics characterization methods, such as static and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy

  • The candidate is expected to think and work independently and conduct research in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment with chemists from different branches of chemistry, such as inorganic, organic and biological chemistry as well as physicists and materials scientists

  • The candidate must have a Ph.D. in physical chemistry or physics with more than five years postdoctoral research experience and has demonstrated the ability of carrying on research in scientific frontiers and the productivity in scientific publications
