Responsibilities*

  • Ambulatory visits in Pediatric Pulmonology clinics primarily in the Mott Ambulatory Care Unit (with potential to support regional sites at MM), focused on patients with asthma, cough, bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), and oupatient follow up of patients admitted for respiratory diseases.
  • Review medications and provide adjustments/recommendations
  • Provide guidance and teaching to families on asthma and BPD management.
  • Provide timely documentation of all patient care encounters in the medical record
  • Collaborate with primary managing team members including physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, nurses, dietician, and social workers
  • Respond to calls from patients/families
  • Participate in educational meetings within the division, department and institution. 
  • Participate in divisional research and quality improvement initiatives. 
  • Demonstrate flexibility to meet demands of patients and families, as well as, division and department. 
  • Provide excellent customer service.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period. Required Qualifications*

  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
  • Current specialty certification as a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan
  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
  • DEA license
  • AHA Approved BLS
  • At least one year of clinical nursing experience with pediatric pulmonary diseases or asthma in the last 5 years
  • At least 1 year of Nurse Practitioner Experience in the pediatric setting

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience completing history and physical examinations; order appropriate diagnostic studies; synthesize information and make informed clinical decisions; develop appropriate care plans; responsive to patient and family preferences and needs. 
  • At least 2 years of outpatient /ambulatory pediatric clinical nursing experience. 
  • Demonstrated high level of critical thinking and medical knowledge by using current medical information and scientific evidence for patient care.  
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and manage a busy work environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative practice. 
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, organization and problem solving skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team. 
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize the electronic medical record for accessing information, recording evaluations and progress notes and for ordering appropriate medications and tests. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities, adherence to ethical principles, and sensitivity to diversity. 
  • Demonstrated leadership in a professional healthcare setting and other professional activities.

Work Schedule

Hours: 40 per week 
Shifts: Day shift; 8-hour shifts 
Days: Monday-Friday 

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
