The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB), in collaboration with the Cancer Center and Research Institute(CCRI), at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is accepting applications for tenure-track faculty positions for individuals focused on cancer research. Applicants will be considered for ranks of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor and must have a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D/Ph.D. degree with appropriate postdoctoral research experience. Applicants in all areas of cancer research are encouraged to apply. Special consideration will be given to candidates with research accomplishments in one or more of the following general areas: cancer genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, or epigenomics; drug development and drug delivery; cancer immunology; or pediatric cancers. Applicants with expertise in all model systems are encouraged to apply.

Candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor should have publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, a well-defined research vision, and are expected to establish an extramurally funded research program. Candidates for appointment at Associate Professor or Professor ranks should have a robust record of innovative accomplishments in basic science or clinical research, including publications in leading journals, extramural research funding, and a well-defined research vision. Faculty members will receive highly competitive salaries, state-of-the-art lab space, and excellent start-up packages.

The CMB Department includes a large group of internationally recognized, NIH, DoD, and CDC-funded researchers studying a wide array of topics, including women’s health, renal disease, liver disease, cancer, microbiology and immunology, developmental biology, cell biology, mitochondrial biology, DNA repair, RNA processing, and biophysics. The department offers state-of-the-art core facilities for cardiovascular (radiotelemetry) and metabolic studies, imaging, biophysical characterization, mitochondrial research, and zebrafish husbandry. New faculty will also be given secondary appointments in the CCRI, joining a group of cancer researchers in the fields of molecular oncology, drug delivery, and drug development. The CCRI provides access to vivarium space for housing preclinical cancer models, an animal imaging core facility and a shared equipment core for common-use laboratory equipment. Additional institutional core facilities support advanced genomics, imaging, flow cytometry, biostatistics, and a clinical biobank with a robust collection of samples from oncology patients. The environment at UMMC fosters excellent mentoring for young faculty and many opportunities for collaboration. New faculty will also be provided appointments as Graduate Faculty in the School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences, which provides full tuition scholarships and competitive stipend support for PhD students.

UMMC serves a large and diverse patient population. The CCRI provides cancer care for patients with breast, lung, liver, brain and CNS, skin, head and neck, gynecologic, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, and hematologic cancers, among others. The CCRI also houses a robust Phase I clinical trials program. Three specialized hospitals on the Jackson campus include the only children’s hospital in Mississippi, a women and infants’ hospital, and a critical care hospital, along with University Hospital.
