Job Description


The Allen Laboratory at the University of Virginia has an immediate opening for a developmental psychologist with expertise in longitudinal research on social development from adolescence into adulthood in a Research Scientist role. 

 

The historic University of Virginia is consistently ranked one of the top 3 public universities in the country by US News and World Report, with a vibrant research enterprise that support cross-disciplinary scholarship.  We are located in beautiful Charlottesville, VA, near the Blue Ridge mountains, with a strong cultural and restaurant scene and college town energy. Travel to Washington, DC in just two hours, or the Atlantic ocean in three.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Completion of Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology or closely related discipline with an emphasis on assessment of social interactions from an attachment theory perspective and a minimum of 3 years hands-on postdoctoral training experience in a social development laboratory.   A record of high-quality research as demonstrated by publications in top tier journals and external presentations is required.  A history of obtaining significant grant support at both the local and national levels is also strongly desired.  Evidence of a growing national reputation, seen in participation in journal editorial boards, as well as ability to translate academic work into material accessible for a broader audience is desired.   Prior experience successfully mentoring students in producing high quality academic reports is desired.  Additional required technical skills: advanced statistical analytic capacities applicable to longitudinal data, experience and ability to develop, utilize and supervise application of complex coding systems to capture social interaction behavior.
