Position Summary:
The Department of Communication at Villanova University seeks applicants for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow, to begin Fall 2023. The position is renewable for up to three years.
The position is designed to foster the professional development of recent PhDs on their journey to full-time faculty positions. Successful candidates will gain formal teaching experience as well as support and mentorship from Communication faculty. We are particularly interested in expanding studies at the juncture of communication and race which may include intersections with gender, sexuality, ability, transnationalism, and/or other components of identity.
With one of the largest undergraduate majors in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the Communication Department offers course work leading to the B.A. in Communication with opportunities to concentrate in eight different areas of the discipline. In addition, the Department supports a thriving M.A. program in Communication. Our faculty prides itself on excellence in teaching and research and seeks to cultivate a supportive, collegial work environment. Duties and Responsibilities:
Our new colleague will teach core undergraduate courses in communication theory and possibly research methods, in addition to elective courses (existing or new) that complement their area(s) of research specialization.
The position involves a 3-3 teaching load and limited service responsibilities that benefit the candidate’s professional development. Candidates must be willing to support the University’s strategic plan of Inclusive Community .
Minimum Qualifications:
Basic requirements: Ph.D. in Communication (ABD considered, with degree in hand by August 2023). We seek candidates whose teaching, scholarship, and/or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as demonstrated in our Departmental focus on social justice, dialogue, and storytelling across the eight area concentrations (Interpersonal & Intercultural Communication, Journalism, Media Production, Media Studies, Organizational Communication, Performance Studies, Public Relations & Advertising, Rhetorical Studies).
Preferred Qualifications:
College-level teaching experience preferred, but not required.
