The Section of Gastroenterology, Hepatology at The University of Chicago is consistently ranked among the best specialty nationally by U.S News and World Report. With nearly 30 specialists on staff, our program plays a leading role in the understanding of digestive diseases and in developing innovative and successful treatments for patients. Since forming the nation’s first full-time department of gastroenterology in 1927, our physicians have continually improved treatments for digestive tract and related disorders by combining medical research, education, and patient care at the highest level.


Job Summary
 

A Research Professional is sought to work on projects related to innate immunity and intestinal mucosal inflammation. The projects involve the use of genetic mouse models to understand epigenetic, epitranscriptomic and metabolic mechanisms in the regulation in bacterial infection or gut mucosal inflammation. The candidate is expected to independently carry out research projects and advance the research program through publications in high impact scientific journals. The research heavily relies on the use of multiple genetic mouse lines; thus, the candidate is expected to manage his/her own mouse colonies by setting up breeding and genotyping, and to generate disease models from these genetic lines for investigation. The candidate is expected to perform physiological, histological, cellular, immunological, biochemical and molecular analyses of the study models. In addition, he/she will share some lab-wide responsibilities such as routine lab duties.

Responsibilities


  • Independently execute research projects using cell and mouse models.

  • Maintain mouse colonies including setting up mating and genotyping.

  • Generate disease models and perform animal treatments.

  • Perform physiological, histological, immunological, biochemical, cellular and molecular analyses of study mice.

  • Conduct routine lab duties.

  • Performs experiments and collects and analyzes data. Participates in the promotion of a research project.

  • Collaborates on development of new research projects with academic and community-based organizations.

  • Performs other related work as needed.



Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.

Experience:

  • Completion of postdoctoral training.

  • Experience in studies with genetic mouse models.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
