Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Project Coordinator I for Student Affairs. The position is responsible for overseeing research and evaluation projects to improve programmatic impact on student success. This includes assisting departments in the Division of Student Affairs and student organizations with their assessment and evaluation needs, developing assessment instruments, assisting with the analysis and interpretation of data, preparing written reports, and using data to develop professional development resources, toolkits, and events.
Among the key duties of this position are the following
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues engaged in assessment and professional development activities.
  • Develops and conducts training workshops for division staff members on assessment and other core competencies.
  • The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, a skilled problem-solver, disciplined, organized, and an exceptional communicator who will contribute to a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that includes statistics, psychology, sociology, mathematics, computer science, economics.
  • A minimum of two years work experience in student affairs and higher education.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Relevant professional research experience working in a technical environment, advanced level skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Requires excellent analytical, oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have knowledge of research methodology and the assessment cycle, educational research design, accountability issues and student learning outcomes.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge/experience in research design, program evaluation and/or assessment of student learning, and have experience in synthesizing and interpreting complex data and reporting findings to a variety of constituents in both oral and written communication.
  • Must be detail-oriented, highly organized, proactive, creative thinker and problem-solver, possess the ability to interpret and communicate statistical processes and findings to a diverse audience with varying levels of data acumen.
  • Strong analytical skills as well as verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with data management (data gathering or storage) or statistical packages such as SPSS is required.
  • Experience with graphic design and data visualization software such as Microsoft PowerBI is required, and Geospatial mapping technology is preferred.
  • Experience with using survey software and reporting platforms such as Anthology and Qualtrics is required.
  • Must have an understanding of student and staff development within the context of Student Affairs work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in college student affairs, higher education administration,social sciences, statistics, or other related field.
  • Experience with creating data visualizations also desired.
  • Knowledge of student development and higher education literature.
  • An understanding of the issues of higher education and the ability to develop recommendations within a contextual understanding of institutional needs.
  • Proficiency in appropriate analysis software and languages such as Excel, SPSS, R, SAS, Python, Atlas, nVivo, and Power BI.
  • Knowledge of manipulating data sets including querying, integration, and data cleaning.
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques and methodologies (descriptive, correlational, and inferential).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with relational databases and on-line survey and assessment tools (e.g., Anthology) preferred.
Equipment Utilized
  • Must possess advanced skills in the Microsoft Office suite and operate in other campus database systems
  • Expected to use the Internet to complete work responsibilities
  • Expected to use and maintain office equipment including but not limited to phones, copier, fax, and scanner
  • Will use a variety of data extraction, manipulation, compilation, and analysis programs
  • Proficient in statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R), visualization tools (Microsoft PowerBI), and on-line survey tools (e.g., Anthology)
