Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Coordinator of Resident Support Services for Rutgers Residence Life. The Coordinator of Resident Support Services for Accommodations and Special Populations reports to the Associate Director of Residence Life Administration and is responsible for the support and assignment of students with disabilities and medical concerns, coordination of the special accommodation request process, the incoming and continuing student special housing assignment process, and the coordination with university partners who are involved in accommodating students in residence
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Responsible for advising campus staff of emerging trends on how to support the needs of students with disabilities within the community, coordinates with the departmental assessment unit to ensure a high level of quality services to students of concern, consults with the Residence Life Student Support unit when necessary, and works in concert with the Office of Disability Services for all approved service and assistance animal requests.
  • Assist the Associate Director of Residence Life Administration in serving the needs of special populations (students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, students in transition, non-traditional students) and serve as a consultant and advocate for their concerns and respond to students and parents with concerns in a compassionate and timely manner.
  • Serve as a resource to the specific student population requiring special housing accommodations or other housing needs on campus and serve as a consultant and advocate for their concerns.
  • Respond to students and parents with concerns regarding their housing accommodations in a compassionate and timely manner.
  • Meet with students, guardians, staff or others to help resolve problems associated with their residential communities.
  • Work with students to coordinate room changes, management of the special housing accommodations waitlist, and review cancellation requests as well as removals from housing.
  • Work with student health centers to determine reasonable accommodations based on medical needs.
  • Respond to problems which are received by the central Residence Life units; involve and work with the campus staff and other Residence Life units to resolve the issues.
  • Assist with the dissemination of information to all emergency personnel pertaining to students of high concern during emergency situations (evacuation, fire, weather, etc.)

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelors’ degree in a related field.
  • Three to five years of experience working in residence life of a closely related field with responsibility for student advocacy and knowledge of ADA and FHA laws.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work with a highly diverse population, excellent problem-solvingskills and a strong commitment to customer service and student development.
  • Must be detail orientated, have good writing skills and have knowledge of computer data base systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree.
Equipment Utilized
  • Operate the housing assignment database as it pertains to student disabilities and the necessary modifications of facilities.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same.
