Overview
The Rutgers Future Scholars (RFS) Program is a 5-year pre-college program for talented, low-income, first-generation college-bound youth from Rutgers University’s five host cities: Camden, New Brunswick, Newark, Piscataway, and Rahway. The goal of the RFS Program is to increase the number of youth from under-resourced backgrounds who complete high school and attend college. Scholars who successfully complete the program, and receive admission into Rutgers University receive a full-tuition scholarship (after all federal and state grant aid) funded through a range of grants and donations.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Program Coordinator I for the Rutgers Future Scholars (RFS) Program Camden. The position reports directly to the Rutgers Future Scholars Director on university wide program matters and the Director of Education Partnerships within the Division of Diversity, Inclusion, and Civic Engagement.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Position implements all efforts, programming and services related to the Future Scholars Program on the Camden Campus.
  • Responsible for supervising and assisting with the hiring of part time staff responsible for supporting programming for 250 middle and high school students yearly.
  • This position works primarily with high school juniors and seniors, by providing direct guidance, support, and creating specialized curriculum that addresses each populations’ needs.
  • This position will work with and collaborate with RFS Launch Pad staff to help serve the first-year undergraduate students.
  • Additionally, this position provides overall program management, in collaboration with Sr. Program Coordinator and Program Coordinator, including planning and development, assessment, reporting and some fundraising efforts for to the university?wide Rutgers Future Scholars Program.
  • The position will work collaboratively to design recruitment and retention efforts, enrolling 50 new 7th grade scholars yearly.
  • The position will assist Leadership, when necessary, with the budget comprised of state and donated funds, program accounts and expenditures and assists in annual reporting and end of year budget close?outs as needed.
  • Position will be required to report to and help carry out the operation, vision, and values of the Division of Diversity, Inclusion, and Civic Engagement.
  • Provides excellent customer service in all aspects.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of two years of related professional experience with progressive responsibility which includes youth development programming, working with diverse populations in educational settings or community based organizations, collaboration/coalition building, budget preparation and assessment.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent organizational, public presentation, written communication, organizational, negotiation and interpersonal skills and computer literacy are also required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master preferred or equivalent work experience, in education, human/youth development, sociology, social work, public policy, science, math, or related technical fields.
  • Knowledge and experience working within the community of Camden highly preferred.
  • Fluency in other languages other than English (Spanish) helpful but not required.
  • Teacher’s certification in academic discipline, curriculum development or administration, preferred but not required.
  • Teaching experience at post?secondary level helpful but not required.
Equipment Utilized
  • Familiarity with current software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams. Qualtrics, docusign
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Saturdays during the Academic year and some evenings.
  • Will consist of traveling to the partnering schools and RFS communities as needed.
  • Must be willing to work in fast paced environment and diverse students, families, and work colleagues.
  • Will require Protection of Minors Training.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
