Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Staff Nurse in the department of Pediatrics at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
In accordance with professional nursing standards, Staff Nurse skillfully administers total patient care based on the individualized needs of assigned patients and families. This position is Monday-Friday and does not include weekends. There may be a possibility for flex scheduling.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.
  • Administers prescribed medications, teaches patients how to administer injectable medications.
  • Coordinate care for chronic illness patients across multidisciplinary team.
  • Develop and implement patient education tools.
  • Assists in GT/NGT replacement, troubleshooting and caregiver education.
  • Answers all clinical phone calls, triages, obtains history and collaborate with the physician to administer therapeutic plan.
  • Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient.
  • Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient’s condition and reactions to drugs, treatment and significant incidents.
  • Responds to life savings situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocol.
  • Documents all nursing history and assessment for patients in their charts.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey as a Registered Nurse.
  • Must have at least two (2) years of pediatric in-patient or out-patient experience.
  • Within the last three (3) years, must have experience in triaging pediatric GI patients and management and care of gastrostomy tubes.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
  • Current CPR/BLS.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Telephone triage skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Electronic Medical Record, including the ability to type and talk at the same time while navigating a Windows environment.
  • Excellent oral and written business English proficiency communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Three to five (3-5) years of experience.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Ability to lift 25 lbs.

  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Moderate Noise.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
