Description of Work Unit
We conduct research in the area of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources (HDNR) and prepare students for careers in conservation leadership and tourism. This area of study focuses on understanding and attending to the needs and values of humans, human society, and culture as they relate to the natural environment. HDNR has more than 90 years of collaborative research in parks and protected areas and contributes to informed decision making while conveying a broad based understanding of the way humans value, use and depend on the natural environment. HDNR is one of the few programs in the United States that offers a comprehensive bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral program.
Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Position Summary
This Postdoctoral Fellow position will perform mostly independent research, collaborate on a multi-scholar research initiative, and lead responsibility for discrete components of a larger research project or program, all while under the general direction of a senior or principal researcher. The position is for I year (12 mos) and will be responsible for implementing a research project focused on (black, indigenous, and people of color) BIPOC communities and diversity and access of recreational fishing in Colorado. Main responsibilities include developing and implementing a state-wide survey, and conducting interviews with BIPOC project participants. Additional duties include interview and survey data management, data analysis, and writing of manuscript and reports. The position may also be responsible for supervising undergraduate students.

Required Job Qualifications
The minimum education required for this position is a completed, or near-completed (ABD), PhD in environmental social science, human dimensions of natural resources, or related discipline. The position requires that the Postdoctoral Fellow have expertise in social science research methodologies including quantitative, and qualitative methods, and survey design. The candidate must have skill using R, SPSS, or JMP, and qualitative software programs. The Postdoctoral Fellow must have critical thinking skills, and be able to perform duties under minimum supervision.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Expertise in outdoor recreation, fisheries, and/or natural resource management.
Experience working with communities of color.
Experience with Qualtrics.
Experience supervising undergraduate students.
