Summary

The Project Manager will partner with the chair, associate chairs, senior staff leadership and report directly to the Chief Department Administrator. The successful candidate will support the Department of Psychiatry quality improvement, and expansion of contractual collaborative care strategic initiatives through process improvement by identifying time, money, equipment, and staffing required to complete identified projects. The ideal candidate will utilize excellent judgment, diplomacy and problem-solving skills in responding to and implementing effective processes. This position requires a high degree of organization, flexibility with the ability to work proactively, as part of a team, with initiative and creativity.  Position requires the experience, judgment, confidence, and competence to make decisions free from immediate direction.

Responsibilities*

Project Management-Strategic Initiatives: 40%

  • Identify departmental potential gaps to processes implement system improvements ensuring quality, safety and value are consistently delivered
  • Plan and execute multiple projects and assignments in fulfillment of organizational objectives
  • Create and communicate comprehensive project plans, including schedules, resources, deliverables, and measures of success
  • Manage projects from start to finish, including data analysis, purposeful meeting facilitation, and consistent focus on the big picture
  • Assist in Quality Improvement initiatives in partnership with Finance, Clinical Documentation Specialist, and Revenue Cycle in seeking to improve clinical care and optimize revenue
  • Assume complete ownership of project success, providing dedicated leadership and seeking support as needed
  • Prepare written reports of findings, conclusions, and recommendations

Project Management- Management of Strategic Clinical Contracts: 40%

  • Lead expansion of behavioral health collaborative care efforts across the State of Michigan
  • Oversee and collaborate with faculty affairs manager on faculty effort and compliance as it pertains to credentialing and meeting contractual requirements
  • Liaison for all partner institutions (mid-Michigan, Sparrow) and external entities
  • Perform intake of all contractual requests and partner with strategy office in collaboration with the finance team and department administrator in rate setting, negotiation and managing contractual amendments

Administration: 20%

  • Participate in planning and policy development for administrative, financial and operational programs, instruction and research activities with the Chair, Associate Chairs, CDA and Psychiatry Senior Leadership Committee
  • Collaborate with department space and facilities partners on planning and acquisitions of furniture and equipment
  • Represent the department on Medical School and/or University-wide committees
  • Additional responsibilities / duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

Project Manager Intermediate:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Individual must be organized and have the ability to carry out multiple projects and complete work in a timely fashion.
  • 2-4 years of project management experience
  • Experience in healthcare with understanding of clinical work and work flows
  • Experience in project management with excellent time management and relationship building skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience taking initiative and leading change without direct supervisory authority
  • Demonstrated commitment to service excellence and creation of the ideal patient care experience
  • Demonstrated problem solving, influence and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to prioritize and negotiate priorities
  • Exceptional organizational and computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft software applications, analytical and reporting experience preferred

Project Manager Associate:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Individual must be organized and have the ability to carry out multiple projects and complete work in a timely fashion.
  • Less than 2 years of project management experience
  • Experience in project management with excellent time management and relationship building skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving, influence and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to prioritize and negotiate priorities
  • Exceptional organizational and computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft software applications, analytical and reporting experience preferred

Desired Qualifications*

  • Project management experience for healthcare projects or within a health system.
  • Bachelor's degree in health services administration, public health, business administration, or other related field
  • Master’s degree in health services administration, public health, business administration, or other related field
