Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The final title of Associate Clinical Professor or Clinical Professor will be determined by the applicant’s education and experience.

The Faculty Director will be a seasoned educator and partnership builder, an exemplar of the Do Good Institute’s focus on experiential learning, and a leader in reimagining learning at the university level. The Faculty Director is a leader and resource for Do Good Institute campus partnerships and campus curricular and co-curricular programs.

The Faculty Director’s primary roles include:
  • A faculty appointment in the School of Public Policy with teaching responsibilities,
  • supporting the development and expansion of Do Good curriculum partnerships and Do Good programs across the campus,
  • providing leadership on DGI programs for advanced projects and ventures, and fundraising.

As part of their duties, the Faculty Director will support the Director of the Do Good Institute’s partnership with the Senior Vice President and Provost on a new Do Good Campus Fund and a new, campus-wide Do Good Strategic Leadership Council.

As part of their service, the Faculty Director may serve as a SPP representative on the Council.

The position is expected to be a 12 month appointment. This position is expected to directly supervise one or more individuals.

Teaching 
The position will teach three courses every 12 months that advance the Do Good Campus mission. The courses will have a focus on experiential social impact. The courses could also include a focus on social innovation, nonprofit leadership, philanthropy, social entrepreneurship, or related areas. 
 
Do Good Campus Curriculum Development
The Faculty Director supports and provides leadership for the development, quality, and deployment of the Do Good Institute’s Experiential Learning focus including curriculum (in the classroom and outside the classroom) and program partnerships across the campus. 
 
The Faculty Director will provide substantial support to and work with the Director of the Do Good Institute on collaborations with the Provost on a new Do Good Campus Fund and Do Good Strategic Leadership Council. Those efforts will entail collaborating with and assisting faculty, administrators, and staff across the campus. 
 
Program Management and Fundraising
The Faculty Director will provide leadership for the development of advanced Do Good ventures, projects, and partnerships. The Faculty Director will work to cultivate donor and partner relationships that produce more resources for Do Good efforts. These fundraising efforts will be in partnership with other DGI and UMD leaders and university development professionals.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Master’s degree in higher education, community development, nonprofit, public, or social sector(s), or other fields relevant to the position

Experience:
10+ years of relevant professional work experience in higher education, nonprofit, public, or social sector(s)

  • Skilled in developing and implementing fundraising strategies that deliver results

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as cooperatively in a team environment
  • Ability to think strategically and turn ideas into action
  • Must possess sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy in working with a variety of personalities and constituencies internally, across UMD, and externally
