The Program Coordinator, Quality Assurance is an integral member of the Department of Quality and Patient Safety (QPS), contributing to the collection and monitoring of data/measures and responsible for managing improvement projects. The Program Coordinator’s efforts will be central to hospital regulatory compliance and quality assurance. The Program Coordinator will work in all areas of the Institute, with a significant focus on adult inpatient and ambulatory settings. This role will coordinate and manage several committees including the Subcommittee of the board for Quality Improvement Risk Management (QIRM), the DFCI Quality Improvement Committee (QIC), related sub-committees, and selected improvement activities as identified by QPS leadership. This individual will also contribute to updating and managing DFCI’s Quality Assurance and Process Improvement (QAPI) plan, and, where appropriate, lead associated QAPI goals.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

• Manage and support the board-level Quality Improvement Risk Management Committee comprising Trustees as well as clinical and operational leadership throughout the organization in close partnership with the Senior Director of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance as well as the Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety. 
• Support the DFCI Quality Improvement Committee, comprising senior leadership throughout the Institute. Assist in planning, convening, and managing workgroups to address improvement priorities identified by the Committee. Multiple workgroups may be active concurrently.  
• Manage quality and performance measurement initiatives under direction of QPS Department leadership. Assist leaders in identifying key initiatives and projects that will provide the maximum benefit in improving quality, outcomes, and efficiency.  
• Contribute to Quality and Patient Safety Department development and evaluation of DFCI quality dashboards. Engage stakeholders throughout the Institute to ensure measure performance meets targets and address gaps in performance when necessary. 
• Provide project management for improvement initiatives when appropriate. Scope and document projects.  
  • Identify major phases, implementation steps, success metrics, key stakeholders, timelines, resource needs, and potential obstacles for each project  
  • Employ quality improvement tools and methodologies 
  • Utilize project management tools and summary documents to track and communicate status of projects 
• Manage the Inpatient Quality Committee, the Utilization Review Committee, the Ambulatory Quality Committee, and the US News and World Report Leadership Group, working with leadership throughout the organization to ensure appropriate review of regulation-based quality requirements and quality improvement priorities. 
• Prepare effective communication to inform department and Institute stakeholders regarding outcomes of all improvement initiatives.  
• Interact frequently and independently with senior leaders, managers, and clinical and operational staff to effectively implement improvement initiatives. Build and maintain relationships throughout the Institute. 
• Collect, organize, and summarize materials for presentations, including to senior leadership and Trustee committees.  
• Present project data, analyses, and updates to key stakeholder groups independently, as requested.  
• Perform all other related duties as required. 

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in healthcare administration/management public health or other relevant field of study preferred
• 1 year of relevant experience required
• Experience in managing quality improvement/process improvement projects required
• Experience in managing regulation-based quality requirements required
• Experience with PDSA, Rapid Cycle Process Improvement, Lean, Six Sigma, or other improvement methods preferred
