Summary of Position

The Department of Sustainable Product Design and Architecture (SPDA) at Keene State College invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor or Clinical faculty position in the Architecture Program, beginning August 2023. Candidates with a focus on teaching and practice in commercial construction, sustainable architecutural design, construction management, and building information modeling are highly desired. The architecture and construction management curricula are closely aligned, with several courses required for both majors. The teaching load will focus largely within the Architecture Program, which offers a four-year Bachelor of Science in Architecture with approximately 120 majors. The Architecture and Construction Management programs share a LEED Platinum state-of-the-art facility (TDS Center) with Product Design, Safety and Occupational Health, and Construction Safety Management majors. Altogether, the five majors in the TDS Center account for approximately 600 students. The College reserves the flexibility to appoint tenure-track or clinical rank dependent upon the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The Architecture Program has a solid commitment to engaging students in high impact educational practices including learning through service, undergraduate research, and real-world, hands-on projects. The program promotes sustainable design in all aspects of the curriculum. Course formats include classroom teaching, lectures, studios, and laboratories, and working with students on applied research projects. As part of their regular teaching responsibilities at this public liberal arts college, faculty members may teach both disciplinary courses and courses in our general education curriculum which is called the ‘Integrative Studies Program.’ For more information about this program, please see: http://www.keene.edu/isp/.

The primary teaching responsibilities of this position are in the following areas: architectural design, commercial construction, construction management, and building information modeling. Additional responsibilities include student advisement, curriculum development, laboratory management, and department and College service. Faculty provide service to the College through sponsorship and participation in committees, clubs, and activities.

Scholarly activity is required for tenure-track, with a teaching load of twelve credits, typically three (4) credit courses, per academic semester. Additional responsibilities include maintaining an active record of professional development.

Teaching load typically includes four (4) credit undergraduate courses for clinical faculty per academic semester. Additional responsibilities include advising and participating in departmental activities.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must demonstrate a record of accomplishment in their area of expertise, which includes a digital design/research portfoliio of built and unbuilt work.

A Master’s degree in Architecture (M.Arch), 5 years of professional architectural building design and construction experience, and 2 or more years of high school, college/university level, or workplace teaching in a classroom setting, online and/or lab, including course planning, preparation, instruction, classroom management, teaching, assessment, and continuous improvement are required for Tenure-Track Assistant Professor rank.

A Bachelor’s of Architecture, (B. Arch) and Master’s degree in Architecture (M. Arch) or Master’s in Construction Management, 5 years of professional experience and 2 or more years of teaching of high school, college/university level, or workplace teaching in a classroom setting, online and/or lab, including course planning, preparation, instruction, classroom management, teaching, assessment, and continuous improvement are required for Clinical Faculty rank.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Professional licensing in architecture; a master’s degree in Construction Management, professional licensing in construction management, proficiency in professional and industry software applications related to CAD, commercial construction, and visual representation. Additionally, the College has identified desirable qualifications that support our commitment to creating and maintaining a diverse campus community including the ability to speak a second language or to bring a multicultural perspective to the campus.

Salary Information

Salary is based on the prevailing Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement, according to which the rank minimum for a tenure-track Assistant Professor is $73,750. A candidate with a Master’s degree and limited teaching experience will be hired at the Clinical Instructor level. The rank minimum for a Clinical Instructor is $60,330. A candidate with a Master’s degree and a consistent record of successful teaching and of certification appropriate to the discipline will be hired at the Assistant Clinical Professor level. The rank minimum for an Assistant Clinical Professor is $64,430. Salary is complemented by a comprehensive benefits package and is based on the prevailing Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement. Salary information above reflects Academic Year 2023-2024 rank minimums.
