JOB SUMMARY

The Sayre Photochemistry Lab at Northeastern University seeks one enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to commence spring 2022. The research focus will be on transient absorption spectroscopy to investigate photocatalysis mechanisms and developing supramolecular photocatalysts for organic synthesis. Projects may involve inorganic synthesis, catalysis, steady-state spectroscopy, electrochemistry, and time-resolved spectroscopy. Other potential projects that align with our general direction are also possible.

PREFERRED QUALICATIONS

Expertise in time-resolved spectroscopy or inorganic synthesis will be a plus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • The candidate must have a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, or a closely related field.
  • The candidate should have strong problem-solving skills, communication skills, and be highly motivated.
  • Demonstrated research experience in inorganic synthesis, photocatalysis, or spectroscopy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

1) Assist in initiating, executing, and completing research and experiments.

2) Prepare and write research papers, presentations, grant proposals, etc.

3) Laboratory management.

4) Train graduate and undergraduate students.

The primary responsibility of the postdoc is to conduct research. The postdoc is also expected to write research papers, present research at meetings, contribute to research proposals, manage research data and software, and assist in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.

The position will be available starting January, 2022 and will remain open until filled. The initial appointment is for one year, with the potential for extension depending on regular progress evaluation and continuation of funding. It is generally expected that the appointment will be extended for at least one additional year if the progress evaluation is satisfactory.
